Dr. Muhammad Shahid Khalil is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at National Skills University, Islamabad. He has over thirty-seven years of experience in Industry and Academia at different key positions along with 150 memorabilia and certificates. Dr. Shahid pursued his B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from UET Lahore, and Ph.D. from University of Sheffield, U.K.
After his bachelor's, he joined an Automotive Industry Kawasaki Motorcycles, a Japanese multinational company. Soon after that, He joined HMC Taxila where he worked for more than ten years on Machine Shop floors, CAD/CAM Design, and Manufacturing setup.
He also holds the distinction to stand first in the national competition for the slot of Technological Adviser under the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) and supervised three different projects worth Rs. 685 million, namely (a) National Technology Policy (b) Project of Grant-in-Aid for Contractual Research and (c) Consultancy Program for Quality Improvement in SMEs. This experience encompassed 35 Research Projects and dealing with 2000 SME Industries to improve their Quality Management Systems.
Afterward, Dr. Shahid moved to NUST Head Quarters, Islamabad, where he gave a unique idea named "Brain Child of NUST Consulting" as a commercial outfit that caught management attention and earned PKR 20 million for NUST. The success spurred him further to build linkages with Industries through certifications in ISO 9000, ISO 14000, ISO 17025 and initiated four months PG Diplomas. After serving four and a half years at NUST HQ, he switched to the University of Engineering and Technology, Taxila where he served as Chairman and Dean of the Mechanical Engineering & Energy Engineering departments. During this tenure, he was offered various roles in government institutions such as Director-General in HEC, PASTIC, and Member Science in Pakistan Science Foundation but his preference was teaching. Where, he supervised more than fifty Doctoral & Master students and hundreds of Undergraduate students along with that he participated actively in statutory body meetings and formulated academic policies, etc.
Dr. Shahid Khalil also served as a member of selection boards at different public sector universities & as an editor/reviewer of many reputable journals, Lead Auditor in QMS, ISO9000, EMS14000, and ISO17025, also conducted more than 60 Consultancy Audits of various industries. Besides, he performed the role of convener and expert in PEC for the accreditation of Engineering Programs in the country.
He is also recognized as HEC approved Ph.D. Supervisor with over 100 international publications. Besides this, Dr. Shahid Khalil has presented research papers at various national as well as international conferences and won numerous travel grants worth Rs 4.0 million. He was able to secure Research Grants worth 16.0 million for post-graduate students, from national and international organizations. Being in charge of Finances for University – Industries Linkage program, he raised Rs 7.5 million for the DICE event in which five Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) documents were signed with industries.
