Engr. Dr. Waqas Arif is serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering Technology at National Skills University, Islamabad, Pakistan. He received his B.S. Electrical Engineering Degree (Gold Medalist, Vice-Chancellor & Quaid-e-Azam Gold Medalist Award) and M.S. Electrical Engineering Degree (Silver Medalist). Dr. Waqas Arif pursued his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Electric Power System & Automation from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, North China Electric Power University, Beijing, China. He is recipient of fully-funded Chinese Government Scholarship for Ph.D. studies as well as for University scholarships for BS & Pakistan Air Force (PAF) scholarship for MS studies. He was recognized with an outstanding research award from North China Electric Power University, Beijing, China.

He has over Sixteen years of teaching and practical experience in various Government and private organizations in Pakistan. Dr. Waqas Arif, before joining NSU, served as Chairperson of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department. He also worked as Director Accreditation and Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) which led to the Outcome Based Education (OBE) based accreditation of the Electrical Engineering Department and it became one of the few institutes to get OBE Level-II accreditation at that time. He is a National Level Assessor in National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC). Besides teaching, he had established several Engineering & Technology based laboratories, designed OBE based course curriculum and Rubrics Based laboratory manuals, prepared OBE based Self-Assessment Reports (SAR) & Compliance Repots and organized Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), National Technology Council (NTC) and National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) accreditation visits as Head/member of Accreditation Committee.

Dr. Waqas Arif specializes in Lightning discharge Characteristics and Lightning attachment characteristics of GFRP and CFRP wind turbine blades. He investigated the interception failure of different wind turbine blade lightning protection systems (LPSs). Based on his scientific studies he proposed a novel lightning protection system for new generation CFRP wind turbine blades and has published several research articles in Electrical Power Systems Automation and Lightning Protection domain.
