Engr. Dr. Waqas Arif is serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering Technology at National Skills University, Islamabad, Pakistan. He received his B.S. Electrical Engineering Degree (Gold Medalist, Vice-Chancellor Gold Medalist Award) in 2009 and M.S. Electrical Engineering Degree (Silver Medalist) in 2015 from the University of South Asia, Lahore, Pakistan. Dr. Waqas Arif pursued his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Electric Power System & Automation from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, North China Electric Power University, Beijing, China. He is recipient of fully-funded Chinese Government Scholarship for Ph.D. studies as well as for University scholarships for BS & Pakistan Air Force (PAF) scholarship for MS studies in Pakistan. He was recognized with an outstanding research award from North China Electric Power University, Beijing, China.

He has over nine years of teaching and practical experience in various private organizations in Pakistan. Dr. Waqas Arif before joining NSU served at University of South Asia, Lahore and Quaid-e-Azam College of Engineering and Technology (QCET), Sahiwal affiliated with University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore. He was the Head of Electrical Engineering and Technology Department. He was also Head of Accreditation and Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) which led to the OBE based accreditation of the Electrical Engineering Department of QCET and it become one of the few institutes to get OBE based accreditation. Besides teaching, he established several Engineering & Technology laboratories, prepared laboratory manuals, and organized Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) and National Technology Council (NTC) accreditation visits under OBE Level-II.

Dr. Waqas Arif worked on Lightning discharge Characteristics and Lightning attachment characteristics of GFRP and CFRP wind turbine blades. He investigated the interception failure of different wind turbine blade lightning protection systems (LPSs). Based on his scientific studies he proposed a novel lightning protection system for new generation CFRP wind turbine blades and has published several research papers in this domain.
