The major research interests relate to wireless communications that include D2D communications, MIMO, massive MIMO, NOMA, heterogeneous small cell and cognitive radio networks, 5G network, network slicing, network surveillance, fog and edge computing, information and network security.

biography

Ishtiaq Ahmad is a professional having twenty-eight years experience related to both industry & academia. He received his bachelor degree in Electronics Engineering from NED University of Engineering and Technology Karachi in 1994. He worked as a biomedical engineer at Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital Lahore from 1994 to 1996 for the execution of French-aided project under umbrella of Sopha Development France, where he actively participated in installation testing commissioning of many medical equipment. He got foreign training in Nantes and Paris France on medical equipment in July 1995.

He joined Pakistan Telecomm. Company Limited (PTCL) in Sep. 1996 as assistant divisional engineer (ADE) and got one-year initial training on telecommunication equipment, general management rules and regulations at Telecommunication Staff College Haripur-Hazara from 1996 to 1997. He served as digital development engineer for three years from 1997 to 2000 for installation, testing and commissioning of Siemens, Alcatel and ZTE exchanges in central region of Punjab. He supervised technical activities in Dec 1999, for successful and trouble-free new Millennium roll over. He worked as ADE/ DE in Multan and Faisalabad Regional for three years from 2000 to 2003. The responsibilities included operation and maintenance of ZTE, Alcatel switching network, local copper network (OSP), and public dealing for end-user connectivity. In 2004 he received his master’s degree in Telecommunication Engineering from Institute of Communication Technologies (ICT) Islamabad.

He served as Senior Engineer Optical Fiber Development for four years from Sep. 2004 to Nov. 2008 in Islamabad. The responsibilities included installation, testing and commissioning of the DWDM core ring network throughout the country, local loop optical network in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, and intercity optical network in North Punjab, NWFP and Northern Areas of Pakistan. He got foreign trainings on ZTE optical equipment in Shenzhen China in 2006 and NERA digital Radio equipment in Dubai in 2008. He served as Senior Manager Coordination Wireless Networks Development for two years from Nov. 2008 to Oct. 2010 where he supervised development projects related to installation, testing and commissioning of 3G CDMA radio and core network equipment.

He Studied at the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunication Beijing for 4 years from 2010 to 2014 for Ph.D. in Information and Communication Engineering. He joined the Electrical Engineering Department, The University of Lahore, in Sep. 2014 and served there for eight years till Sep 2022, as assistant and associate professor. He supervised many MS and PhD students. He joined National Skills University Islamabad in Sep. 2022 as Professor in Electrical Engineering Technology department and currently working as Chairperson.
