The Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) aims to produce qualified technologists and skilled manpower by focusing on innovative and essential knowledge and technical skills through collaborations with the government, industry, and other stakeholders.

The Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) department at National Skills University (NSU), Islamabad, Pakistan, is developed to advance Mechanical and Automotive Technology through technical and practical education by concentrating on skill development for socio-economic uplift in the region. The department is dedicated to impart skills in operating and handling advanced tools and machinery, and also committed to embrace emerging technologies and training its individuals to better utilize them.

As vocational education is a major pillar of a developing economy, the department offers short courses on professional training and a degree program. The short courses being offered currently by the department are High Tech Automotive Technician, AutoCAD (Mechanical) and Heating Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR). Considering the market trends, to create skilled manpower for availing employment opportunities, the department is constantly upgrading its present courses and introducing more courses in the future.

Along with the short courses aimed at developing skills, the department offers a 4-years degree program in BSc Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET). The program aims to equip students with the various basic and advanced level technical skills necessary to adapt new scientific knowledge of Mechanical Engineering Technology. The degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology is therefore in line with these requirements. BSc MET as a discipline serves to fill the technological gap of skilled manpower in the industry related to mechanical engineering. As it is a constantly evolving field, therefore the demand for engineering technologists is increasing in both developed and developing nations.

National Skills University initiated the BSc MET department under the prescribed guidelines of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the National Technology Council (NTC). The MET program is focused on providing basic knowledge on Applied Mechanics, Machine Design, Mechanical vibrations, Thermodynamics, IC Engines, Manufacturing Processes, and other allied mechanical engineering technologies.
